10 Mushroom Matcha Benefits

If you’re always on the go, multifunctional products are probably your best friends. We’re talking all-in-one makeup palettes, cars that send text messages, and phones that double as notepads and navigation. When everything else in your life is doing double time, shouldn’t your morning cup of tea, too?
That’s why we combined the benefits of matcha and medicinal mushrooms to create a delicious, functional matcha latte. Read on to learn the benefits of mushroom matcha and how to make it.
First Things First — What Is Mushroom Matcha?
Mushroom matcha is like an upgraded form of matcha. Essentially, it’s matcha powder that’s combined with mushroom powder. Adding mushroom powder to matcha doesn’t affect the taste, it just adds extra benefits.
Our Mushroom Matcha+ blend specifically incorporates lion’s mane and chaga mushrooms to support focus and immunity. Plus, it features L-theanine to encourage a sense of relaxation, ceremonial grade matcha for a superior flavor, and grass-fed bovine collagen to support gut health.
Why Lion’s Mane and Chaga?
Long before mushroom lattes became the darling of TikTok, lion’s mane and chaga were used in traditional and folk medicines around the world. Lion’s mane, a shaggy-looking fungus that resembles a pom-pom or a yeti’s beard, has deep roots in Traditional Chinese Medicine and Japanese healing practices.
It was prized because of its benefits for memory, focus, and overall vitality. Buddhist monks were even rumored to sip it as a tea to enhance concentration during meditation.
Chaga, on the other hand, comes from the frosty birch forests of Siberia and Northern Europe. Used in Russian and Scandinavian folk medicine for centuries, it was brewed into a bitter black tea and celebrated for its immune-boosting abilities. Nicknamed the “king of mushrooms,” chaga was even consumed as a functional coffee alternative in Finland as recently as the 1930s.
But that’s not all. Although both of these mushrooms have some serious street cred, they have also been the subject of many early studies. While research is still ongoing, so far, the findings have been consistent with what traditional practitioners have known for centuries. These mushrooms are the real deal!
What Are the Benefits of Mushroom Matcha?
Mushroom matcha might be a delicious and aesthetically pleasing way to start your day, but it has a few more tricks up its sleeve. Here are some ways that mushroom matcha can support your health.
1. Supports Focus
Matcha contains L-theanine, an amino acid that can help encourage focus and clear thinking. Matcha also contains a little less caffeine than a cup of coffee, which can also help support an alert and focused state.
As if that wasn’t enough, lion’s mane mushroom has also been studied for its ability to support mental clarity and agility. For instance, this funky fungus has shown promise in supporting neurogenesis, or the growth of new neurons.
These benefits come thanks to compounds called hericenones and erinacines, which may support the body’s production of nerve growth factor (NGF), a protein essential for cognitive function and memory. Research in both animals and small human trials suggests lion’s mane can encourage focus, mental clarity, and even mild cognitive impairment.
Together, these two ingredients pack quite the brain-friendly punch.
2. Encourages Heart Health
There are two main types of cholesterol you need to be aware of when it comes to heart health: LDL (bad) cholesterol and HDL (good) cholesterol. As long as levels of these two types of cholesterol remain balanced, they can support heart health. If either type of cholesterol gets too high, however, the heart can suffer as a result.
Both matcha and chaga mushrooms may support healthy levels of cholesterol in the body. Additionally, matcha may support healthy blood pressure levels, which can also affect heart health.
3. Supports Energy Levels
We all know that coffee is our nation’s go-to drink when we need a little extra jolt of energy. Coffee’s high caffeine content is what makes it so great at keeping us alert — this is also why highly caffeinated energy drinks can make us so wired.
Not all caffeine hits the same, and that’s because caffeine metabolism is basically a genetic lottery. Some people sip an espresso at 10 P.M. and sleep like a baby. Others sip green tea at noon and spiral into existential dread. It all depends on how quickly your liver enzyme (CYP1A2, if you're fancy) breaks down caffeine.
However, tToo much caffeine can send your nervous system into overdrive, causing symptoms like sweating, upset stomach, jitters, and a racing heartbeat. Matcha contains 70 milligrams of caffeine, which is enough to help you feel awake and alert, although it can still cause problems for some people who have a lower caffeine metabolism (hey, we’re not judging!). without causing caffeine jitters.
That’s why we designed our Mushroom Matcha+ with just 40 mg of caffeine per serving. It’s enough to perk you up without freaking you out. Combined with L-theanine and adaptogenic mushrooms, this lower dose can help fuel calm focus without the crash or jitters.
4. Supports the Immune System
Mushroom matcha contains two immune-supporting ingredients: matcha tea and chaga mushrooms. Matcha is a great source of vitamin C, which is known for its ability to support a healthy immune system
At the same time, chaga mushroom is also used to bolster the immune system. Plus, chaga is able to soothe tension within the body, supporting healthy immune responses and encouraging longevity.
Plus, our mushroom matcha contains both matcha and some extra L-theanine thrown in for good measure, both of which can help your brain chill out. How does this affect the immune system?
Well, stress isn’t just a mental burden — it also affects the immune system. Chronic stress floods the body with cortisol, which can suppress immune responses, slow wound healing, and increase susceptibility to illness. Over time, that fight-or-flight mode wears down your defenses, leaving you more vulnerable to infections, inflammation, and burnout.
5. Encourages Long-Term Wellness
Lion’s mane mushrooms, chaga mushrooms, and matcha all contain antioxidants. Matcha also contains a compound called epigallocatechin-3 gallate (EGCG), which is an exceptionally powerful antioxidant.
Antioxidants are molecules that can help neutralize unstable free radicals. When left unchecked, free radicals can cause widespread and lasting damage in the body and may even be one of the primary causes behind long-term concerns like premature aging.
Free radicals come from all kinds of sources and are even made in the body as byproducts of natural processes like digestion. Being exposed to free radicals is a given, and as long as we have enough antioxidants in our diet to keep things balanced, it may not be a cause for concern.
6. Promotes Gut Health
Regular green tea might not contain much fiber, but matcha contains a gram of fiber for every four grams of tea. This is mostly because, with matcha, you’re actually drinking the powdered leaves instead of steeping them. Fiber can help support gut health by feeding the beneficial bacteria in your digestive system.
Lion’s mane mushroom also contains beta-glucans, a specific type of fiber that can have many benefits beyond simple gut health. These mushrooms also contain probiotics, which can add to the healthy bacteria in your digestive tract.
The important thing to remember is that your gut isn’t just where your snacks go — it’s where your serotonin lives (about 90% of it, in fact). A happy gut microbiome can improve mood, sharpen brain function, and even reduce skin issues like breakouts and inflammation.
Research links gut health to everything from depression and anxiety to eczema and cognitive decline. So yes, nurturing your digestive system with prebiotics, probiotics, and adaptogens might help your digestion, but its benefits don’t stop there.
7. May Support Weight Loss
Matcha green tea has been studied for its ability to support weight management by promoting a healthy metabolism. Studies suggest matcha can support metabolism and help the body burn fat more efficiently, especially during exercise.
Its catechins — which include antioxidant compounds like EGCG — may also assist in thermogenesis (a fancy word for calorie-burning). Combine that with steady energy and reduced cravings, and you might just notice a change on the scale. It may also support healthy blood sugar levels, which can help the body efficiently use energy and encourage a healthy weight.
In addition, beta-glucans may encourage weight management. Research into this topic is still in its early stages, and so far only beta-glucans from oats and barley have been studied for weight loss. However, the research is promising.
8. Supports Healthy Hair, Skin, and Nails
You might not find collagen in your average mushroom matcha blend, but at Everyday Dose, we’re anything but average. Our mushroom matcha contains grass-fed bovine collagen protein to support healthy hair, skin, and nails.
As an added bonus, collagen can also encourage joint health and easy digestion, which makes it a truly multifunctional supplement. If you’re worried about whether this affects the taste, don’t be — collagen protein is completely flavorless.
9. Encourages Feelings of Relaxation
Wait a minute — doesn’t mushroom matcha contain caffeine? How can that be relaxing?
While matcha does have slightly less caffeine than a cup of coffee, it also contains L-theanine.
This compound occurs naturally in green tea, and it can help encourage feelings of relaxation. It can do this by influencing levels of neurotransmitters in the brain and encouraging the production of alpha brain waves, which are associated with feelings of relaxation.
It can even help minimize the jittery side effects that can come with caffeine. Our mushroom matcha blend includes extra L-theanine, which may help support this effect even more.
10. It’s Delicious
As if all of these benefits weren’t enough, mushroom matcha also has a deliciously earthy taste. Because we use the highest quality ceremonial grade matcha, our blend tastes sweet and nutty with a slightly bitter finish. You won’t even be able to taste the added ingredients — but that doesn’t mean you won’t feel the added benefits.

How Can You Enjoy Mushroom Matcha?
Mushroom matcha might sound like an enigma, but using it is a piece of cake. Here are some of our favorite creations that use mushroom matcha as the star ingredient.
Drink It Plain
You can do all kinds of fancy things with mushroom matcha, but there’s something special about enjoying it all on its own. To make a classic cup of matcha, simply combine mushroom matcha powder with hot water. Stir the cup thoroughly to make sure all the powder is dissolved or use the electric whisk that comes in our Mushroom Matcha+ starter pack to whip up the mixture.
Make a Latte
If you need a little sweetness to soften the earthy, slightly bitter notes that come with matcha, try making a mushroom matcha latte. Mix a scoop of mushroom matcha with a small amount of hot water to create a concentrate.
This is also where you can add a sweetener or other flavors if you’d like. Then, pour in some steamed milk (or an alternative milk of your choice) to finish up your latte. You can even add in some ice to make a delicious iced matcha latte.
Mix It In
Finally, you can use mushroom matcha in your favorite matcha recipes. You can enjoy a mushroom matcha smoothie, some matcha cookies, matcha ice cream, or even mushroom matcha pancakes. You should even be able to easily swap matcha for mushroom matcha without changing the amount of powder you use.
Are There Any Side Effects of Mushroom Matcha?
Good news! Mushroom matcha isn’t likely to leave you with a laundry list of side effects. That said, your body isn't a robot, and reactions can vary.
If you're new to adaptogenic mushrooms like lion’s mane or chaga, your gut might need a minute to adjust, so bloating or mild digestive shifts aren’t unheard of. It’s also caffeinated (thanks to the matcha), so drinking it too late in the day could mess with your sleep schedule unless you’re on vampire time.
Who Should Not Drink Mushroom Matcha?
While mushroom matcha might be your new favorite daily ritual, it’s not for everyone. If you’re allergic to mushrooms (yes, it happens), skip it. People taking blood thinners or managing blood sugar conditions like diabetes should check with their doctor, as chaga and lion’s mane can subtly influence these levels.
If you’re pregnant or breastfeeding, you should also talk to your primary care provider to get the green light. And, if you’re super sensitive to caffeine, even the gentle lift of matcha might be too much (unless, of course, you’re drinking our low-caf Mushroom Matcha+).
Kids should steer clear, too—this is brain-boosting fuel for grown-up brains. When in doubt, ask your doctor before pouring a cup, and keep an eye on how you’re feeling.
The Bottom Line
Mushroom matcha is a mix of fine matcha powder and powdered mushroom. Together, these ingredients combine to support focus, support the immune system, promote gut health, and encourage feelings of relaxation. This powdered green tea drink is so delicious that you’ll want to enjoy it (and its benefits) every day.
We’re firm believers in the powder of functional mushrooms and matcha, which is why we’ve spent so much time developing a mushroom matcha powder that brings the best of both ingredients. To learn more about the ingredients we use and their benefits, visit the Everyday Dose blog today.
